I am Jingyu (Fotina) Yuan, an artist based in Beijing, China.
My artistic creation with plants began in 2019. At that time, plant installation art deeply moved me, leading me to focus on artistic expression using plants as my medium.
Since then, I have continuously studied the morphological characteristics, color coordination and design language of plants, while learning contemporary installation art. Gradually, I have committed myself to expressing emotions and interpreting all things through plant-based creations.
In the early stage, I tried to recreate natural scenes with plants and depict nature as I envision it. Both the agile shape of a bird’s wing and the tender feeling of warmth and embrace become tangible content expressed through plants.
Through ongoing research and study, I have explored plants themselves, as well as natural aesthetics and artistic conception embodied in traditional Chinese culture and classical paintings, forging my own creative philosophy.
Now, drawing on years of learning and accumulation, I return to creation. I will keep using plants as a pure yet powerful medium to convey what I see, feel and think, and present authentic nature.
